Accomplishing Your Goals!
From Legal Network News
It may be the same old thing: I am going to sit down and write out my goals this year, I need to lose weight, this is the year I am going to start my exercise program, etc.

What can we do so we do not fall into the same old rut?

Before we establish what we are going to do, I think there is an important element that we tend to overlook, and that element is "innovation." According to Webster, innovation is "simply the action of doing something new." Studying innovation may help in bringing our goals or desires to reality.

Many years ago, I read an excellent article by Frederick Herzberg entitled, "Where is the Passion .... and other elements of innovation." According to his article there are certain basic characteristics people must possess to achieve their goals. Of all the characteristics he mentioned, the one that got my attention was passion.

How true it is that we tend to fall into the same old rut because we have lost the passion in our work. Just another year, doing the same thing we did last year! Maybe this year we can do something different. We can try to look at our responsibilities from a different perspective.

Herzberg said, "Where is the passion? Not in the adult laughter which is usually ironic, a means of relieving pain and stress. The passion is in the child's laughter of discovery. The child can laugh because he is still experiencing something new. Adults need to have some time at work - and elsewhere - to experience the laughter of discovery."

Maybe the discovery of passion can lead us to the achievement of our goals. I think it's worth a try!
