Coping With Stress
From Legal Network News
We can't live without it, and at times it's extremely hard to live with it!

If your desk is anything like mine - it is very easy to be overwhelmed. Projects that need to be completed and projects that need to be started. Everything at work is now coupled with home life - kids starting back to school - need money for this and money for that. Home projects that we wanted to finish that still aren't done and we vowed to have them done by the end of summer!

Just how do we control and handle this stress?

Below are 8 points that I heard about many years ago that should help. Right now it seems that I refer to these on a daily basis:

Do one thing at a time - how often have we heard this but still don't follow it. Don't try to do every thing at once; work on the most urgent tasks. Getting the difficult tasks out of the way early is a definite stress reliever.

Be able to accept what you can't change - all things are not under our control. Focus on what you can do!

Give in occasionally - as my wife tells me, "you're not right all the time." Don't always insist that we have the right answers.

Have a balance between work and play - it is imperative to schedule time for exercise to relax your mind. Take breaks to refresh your body and escape from work.

Get plenty of sleep and rest - feeling refreshed will enable you to deal with stress and be less irritable.

Do something for someone else - this is a sure fire way to take the pressure off yourself and will also help you make and maintain friends.

Talk out problems with a friend - you can only use this if you haven't driven away all your friends! A friend can help you see both sides to a problem and even suggest possible solutions.

Get involved - When you feel left out, go to a ball game (Rangers are doing great, at this time) or a play, or the symphony, but don't withdraw and feel sorry for yourself. Stay active!

Turn stress into a positive and make your life more interesting!
